Frequently Asked Questions

What does 'Intrins Inq' mean?

Intrins Inq is a play on the word intrinsic, defined as 'an important and essential characteristic; valuable or interesting due to its basic nature; inseparable from the thing itself'.

The ‘q’ relates to LGBTQ+ and in the logo is a stylized skeleton key, the brand icon, as we all ultimately have the ability to ‘Unloq the potential within’ but like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, it is a journey and we have to work on ourselves to wake up and truly know we deserve those ruby slippers! The key icon also references Ben Franklin’s key and kite experiment trapping lightning in a bottle, an idiom used to refer to something rare and special but possible with calculated risk and bold action. Based in Philadelphia, the brand takes some inspiration from the City of Brotherly Love, a diverse, progressive place with heart, a fighting spirit, and famous for rebellion.

How do we get started working 1:1?

First review the About and Werq sections of the website, to learn more about me, my background and experiences, style and therapeutic orientations, and typical issues I support clients with. Then, use the contact button at the top to complete the form on the homepage or just email me at justin@intrinsinq.com with several availability options to schedule a 15 minute call and I'll respond within 48 hours. On the initial call, I'll ask some questions and we'll discuss your needs, availability, and any other concerns to determine how best to proceed.

Intrins Inq will be offering live and digital presentations, courses, trainings, groups, events, and retreats as we grow to offer multiple experiences to 'Unloq the potential within'!

What's it like working together in Psychotherapy or Coaching?

In addition to the information on the Werq section of the website, you can expect a safe, affirmative, and non-judgmental space where it's all about you! I'm warm and empathetic, and curious and interactive so I do ask questions, notice patterns, explore emotions, and maintain focus. I start sessions with any follow-up or immediate concerns; I may offer resources and make suggestions; and conclude with identifying goals between sessions. A lot of change happens when you take our session and apply it in your life. Every client is unique, but with motivation and support you will deepen awareness and insight, and develop tools and skills to more effectively manage and make sustainable progress with your goals.

Are you in-network with my insurance?

I only accept self-pay and am an out-of-network provider with all insurance companies. Review the plan to determine behavioral health benefits and I can provide a monthly statement for you to submit to the insurance company for reimbursement if applicable.

What can be expected at the beginning of Psychotherapy or Coaching?

There may be specific information I'll need on the initial call and first session but I enjoy starting casually and getting to know one another. I find this often allows clients to feel at ease, get a sense of whether we're a good fit, and the opportunity to express themselves and start to discuss their concerns. I will share some forms to print, complete, and provide at the first session. In the first few sessions of psychotherapy, we will review some history and develop a treatment plan.

How long and often are Psychotherapy and Coaching sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes each; psychotherapy meets on a weekly or biweekly schedule, whereas coaching frequency and duration varies.

Is everything discussed confidential?

Since the LGBTQ+ community can be small, I stress that what is shared with me is confidential. This also means that if we were to encounter one another out in the community, I will not initiate contact. No shade, this is to respect and protect privacy, but if you feel comfortable then say hello!

The limits of confidentiality would be in the event that you may be an immediate danger to yourself or others; I would have to take action to ensure safety. I am also a mandated reporter with the state if I become aware or have suspicion of the abuse of a minor, anyone with a disability, or the elderly.

Can we connect on social media?

I invite you to follow Intrins Inq on social media; please like, comment, and share away! Note that these platforms are not intended to be a primary means of communication. Also, due to professional ethics and boundaries, I cannot personally connect on social media, so please do not take offense if I do not accept a friend request or follow to any personal accounts!

What if I don't live in Pennsylvania or can't meet in Center City Philadelphia?

For psychotherapy, I am only currently licensed to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. If you're not able or interested in meeting live in Center City Philadelphia, I offer online sessions via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?

I require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment via email. When cancelling or rescheduling an appointment within 24 hours of the appointment time, I charge the full amount of that session.

What if I'm traveling, feeling ill, or there's inclement weather but I want to keep the appointment?

In these events and with some advance notice, I may be able to offer a regular live client an online session via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.

What is the best way to get in contact?

It is preferable to email justin@intrinsinq.com and can expect to receive a response within 48 hours. Active clients may also be able to text at 215.995.1224, but if in crisis and requiring immediate assistance, call 911 and go to the nearest crisis center or emergency room. In Philadelphia, you can also contact the 24-hour suicide prevention and crisis intervention service at 215-686-4420.

When contacting Intrins Inq on social media platforms, a response may not always be possible within 48 hours.
